Enclosed or open
An enclosed toilet keeps both the smell and the litter inside – the practical choice for a flat and for a spot that is on show. Some models take a carbon filter, replaced every few months. An open tray suits a cat that would rather not go into a confined space.
Don't forget the liner bags
A hygiene bag goes into the bottom of the box, under the litter. At emptying time the whole contents lift out in one go, so the box doesn't need washing every time. One pack of 45 bags lasts around six weeks with daily emptying.
